This week, we’re diving into a series of bonus episodes, where we go through movies that Denny, John and TC think deserve to be on the top 250. We kick it off with a thiller / character study that possibly contains Jake Gyllenhaal’s best work. Add in commentary about the media industry, sociopathy, race, the police, capitalism, LA nightlight, etc., and you’ve got something that could be considered a niche masterpiece. In yet another genre film/comedy mash-up, this entry is much darker than the previous two, with the unliked protagonist Gary King dragging his old friends to 12 bars, and any more plot description might be considered spoilers. This week, we watch a movie where a tooth getting removed by a hammer is not the most disturbing scene of the film. This film contains amazing acting and filmmaking, so it is highly recommended to those with a strong tolerance for disturbing images and ideas. Oldboy (2003), directed by Chan-wook Park.

This week, we watch possibly the best ensemble cast ever to be put to film. Drama, suspense, comedy, horror…what can’t you say about a classic like this? We all watched it for the first time, and we couldn’t recommend it enough to war movie fans. Das Boot (1981), directed by Wolfgang Petersen.
This week, we watch one of the scariest movies we've ever seen. This film depicts the real life tragedy of the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks, and does it almost too convincingly. A very well made movie that we'd be hard pressed to recommend due to how upsetting it is, but if you can tolerate violence (or you think you can), this one is worth a watch. Hotel Mumbai (2018), directed by Anthony Maras.
This week, we continue discussing the controversial masterpiece by Stanley Kubrick. This film has been banned in many places since its release, and wasn’t able to be purchased in England until the year of Kubrick’s death. To this day, it hasn’t lost an ounce of its impact. Lock the living room door so the kids don’t accidentally wander in. A Clockwork Orange (1971), directed by Stanley Kubrick.
This week, we watch an under-appreciated film from last year that is, as of today, streaming on Netflix. This movie isn’t on the top 250…but hey, we’re all stuck inside (the responsible ones, anyways - looking at you idiots packing in public pools), and is perfect if you’re looking for fictional stress to overtake your real life stress. Adam Sandler arguably gives his best performance to date, and Kevin Garnett and The Weeknd are written in as themselves in very cool cameos, if you can call it that. Uncut Gems (2019), directed by the Safdie Brothers (Benny and Josh).
This week, we watch the film that just won Best Picture at the Oscar’s (as well as Best Director, Best Writing, and best Foreign Picture). It is also currently very high on the IMDB top 250 list. We couldn’t recommend this movie enough, and we highly recommend watching it without watching a trailer or reading about it. Parasite (2019), directed by Bong Joon-ho.
This week, we watch the snowy, bloody, accent-heavy crime film set in rural Minnesota. This movie is equal parts hilarious and terrifying, and is frequently both at the same time. Is this one of the Coen brothers best films? Oh yah, you betcha. Fargo (1996), directed by Joel and Ethan Coen.
